About Streatham

Streatham is the leafy suburb of south Lambeth. For property buyers and business investors it is definitely one to watch.

It is fast coming into its own after a difficult recession and community representatives are working with Lambeth Council to make the most of its advantages. Beautiful Streatham Rookery has featured in several 'best garden' guides.

It provides a lovely setting for outdoor theatre and events each summer. The Rookery adjoins Streatham Common, a popular open space for sports and recreation all year round. Streatham has two multi-screen cinemas, the Odeon and the ABC. Other attractions include the MegaBowl bowling alley, the ice rink and indoor swimming pool and Caesar's nightclub.

Restaurant chains such as Pizza Express and Pizza Hut are joined by many small, specialist and family-run restaurants serving cuisine from all parts of the world. Many people see Streatham each day as they come into the capital along the A23.

Transport links towards central London and to the south and orbital routes are excellent. And they are improving all the time. Railway connections are virtually 'turn up and go'. Serious thought is now being given to Streatham as one of London's busiest bus corridors, to link the area with the tube network.

The Red Route road scheme is creating new parking along Streatham High Road and adjoining side roads, new pedestrian crossings, environmental improvements, street trees and other planting.

Home Office funding has been won for CCTV in the town centre. The shopping district runs along one and a half miles. Its restaurants and pubs are becoming ever more popular. Boots, WH Smith, Our Price, Richard Shops, major banks and building societies are established in Streatham but there is increasing interest from other 'national multiples' as the economy becomes more buoyant. Recent arrivals are cycling, communications and motor supplies specialists, and Tesco and Sainsbury.

There are many prime residential properties in Streatham. Recent interest in the property market has been attributed to the town's variety of facilities and the many good quality properties at affordable prices.
